National Safety Month – June 2017 “Keep Each Other Safe”

WHEREAS, the National Safety Council declares June as National Safety Month; and

WHEREAS, this year’s National Safety Month theme, “Keep Each Other Safe”, focuses
on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, home, on the roads and in
our communities; and

WHEREAS, according to the Bureau of Labor Statics, there were 4,836 fatal work
related injuries and approximately 2.9 million non-fatal work related injuries
in the United States in 2015; and

WHEREAS, 223,000 non-fatal falls occurred on
the job, with the majority of these falls due to slipping or tripping; and

WHEREAS, 2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, an average of 1 death every 40 seconds; and

WHEREAS, every day, 8 people are killed and 1,161 are injured in crashes involving distracted drivers; and

WHEREAS, Curry County had 29 work related injuries in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Curry County recognizes safety, on and off the job, and is committed to promoting a culture of safety,
which greatly contributes to the health and well-being of its employees, their families, and the citizens of Curry
County; and

WHEREAS, Curry County is concerned about the safety and well-being of all employees and works towards
the goal of eliminating injuries and accidents by setting and enforcing policy, providing training and education,
and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Ben McDaniel, do hereby proclaim June 2017 as National Safety Month and
encourage all County employees and citizens to participate
