Substitute Ordinance Number 2011-01 allows the Board of County Commissioners of Curry County to impose bans and restrictions on open fires in Curry County during declared periods of extreme drought, or ongoing critical fire weather or any combination of conditions that pose a significant and continuing risk of uncontrolled fires.
This Ordinance allows the Board of County Commissioners, by adoption of a resolution, at a public meeting, that would limit or put severe restrictions on the public’s ability to have open fires, for the burning of trash, vegetation or any other type of open burning on any property in Curry County.
BEFORE YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW CONSIDERS ANY TYPE OF OPEN BURNING, TRASH, VEGETATION, CROP STUBBLE OR ANYTHING ELSE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE CLOVIS FIRE DEPARTMENT AT (575) 769-1921 AND FIND OUT WHAT TYPE OF FIRE RESTRICTION OR FIRE BAN IS IN PLACE. THE CITY OF CLOVIS FIRE DEPARTMENT IS WORKING WITH LOCAL AREA FIRE DEPARTMENTS TO COORDINATE AND ENFORCE ANY SUCH RESTRICTIONS.
Do not contact your local County Commissioner. You should contact the Clovis Fire Department at (575) 769-1921 to find out what restrictions or bans are in place before you start any open burn.
