Recognizing the Melrose High School Boys Basketball Team as State Champions in Class 1A

PROCLAMATION
RECOGNIZING THE MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
AS STATE CHAMPIONS IN CLASS 1A

WHEREAS, Athletic participation is an important element in the quality of Education provided in High Schools across the nation; and,

WHEREAS, Athletics have always played a big role in forging the bonds between the various School Districts and the other unincorporated areas throughout Curry County; and,

WHEREAS, the Melrose High School Boys Basketball Team has recently won the State of the New Mexico Boys Basketball Team Tournament in their division; and,

WHEREAS, the State Title won by the Melrose High School Boys Basketball Team reinforces the School Districts slogan that, “It’s A Great Day to be a Buffalo”; and,

WHEREAS, Coach Kevin Lacky is in his second year as the Melrose Boys Basketball Team Coach, and has now won two (2) State Basketball Championships at Melrose. The Melrose Boys Basketball Team has won the New Mexico State Championship Game in their District in the years: 1992, 1993, 2001, 2016, 2018 and now 2019; and,

WHEREAS, after the 2018 school year, six seniors from the 2018 State Championship Team graduated from Melrose High School, and the young 2019 Boys Basketball Team started the season with the motto, “We start the season unknown, let’s end the season unforgettable.”  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Chet Spear, Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners of Curry County, do hereby proclaim April 4th as a day to honor the 2019 Melrose High School Boys Basketball Program for their accomplishments and, the students, teachers, faculty and administration of the Melrose School District and ask the residents of Curry County to wear maroon on that day to show their support of these young athletics.
