OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF
WESLEY WALLER SHERIFF
CURRY COUNTY NEW MEXICO
On May 20, 2019 at 11:40 AM, Curry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a motor-vehicle crash, involving two vehicles, at the intersection of Curry Road O and US 60/84.
The investigation has determined that a 1998 Western Star semi-tractor was traveling north on Curry Road O, and being driven by Ricky Lee (56, Somerset, KY). The vehicle was traveling from Kentucky to Arizona. The semi-tractor was pulling an oversized houseboat, measuring approximately 74’x15’, and was being escorted by an oversized-load pilot vehicle.
While attempting a left turn at the intersection of US 60/84, Lee failed to yield and was struck by an eastbound 2017 Ford F150 pickup, driven by Mark Martinez (45, Albuquerque).
Martinez, who was injured during the crash, was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, and later by ambulance to a medical facility in Lubbock, Texas. His condition is listed as serious but stable.
Lee did not report any injuries.
US 60/84, from Curry Road N to State Road 311, was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and the scene cleared and made safe.
The investigation is on-going and enforcement action is pending.
