Curry County Receives Grant Funding

Curry County has been selected as a recipient of the 2019 Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Grant in the amount of $7,000 for a project titled “Curry County Wildfire Preparedness Through Community Outreach”. The Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program was established in 2005, with funding provided by the National Fire Plan through Bureau of Land Management funds in cooperation and partnership with New Mexico Counties. Curry County will use the grant funds to lease billboard space along the U.S. highways in Curry County. The billboards will display messages that will inform local citizens, as well as out of state travelers, about wildfire safety and preparedness.

Eleven (11) grant applications were submitted, totaling $238,882, with ten (10) of those receiving funding in a total amount of $226,945. “Wildfires continue to be a major problem in New Mexico and Curry County wants to help educate the public as much as possible”, said David Kube, Curry County Fire and Safety Director.
